Marmarashen, St. George Church

    The construction of the St. Gevork Church in Marmarashen village (Ararat region) started in 2000 and was fully completed at the end of 2002. The consecration of the church was carried out by His Holiness Karekin II Catholicos of All Armenians in November 2002. It was devoted to the third anniversary of the election of the Supreme Patriarch Karekin II.
    His Holiness consecrated the crosses of the dome and the bell-tower, as well as two khachkars (cross-stones) erected in memory to victims of both the Genocide in 1915 and the earthquake on the 7th of December in 1988.
    The St. Gevork Church was constructed under the initiative and with the support of Sergey Kazaryan, an Armenian benefactor from Moscow. S. Kazaryan was honoured with the supreme award of the Armenian Apostolic Church - the order of St Gregory the Illuminator.
